How Water Changed my Life!


My Journey with Water

Water has been a huge part of my life within the last year and a half. I want to share my journey with you guys and really detail the benefits of drinking water and the right types of water to drink on a daily basis.

In the Beginning....

Let me tell you guys, I was never a big water drinker. It'd be a good day if I drank a bottle of water. I filled my system with green teas, root beers and apple juice, I LOVED apple juice! The result of all these sugary drinks were an uneven skin tone, a constant broken out face and never enough energy to complete my day. I never even realized that it was what I was consuming that had such a negative impact on my outer appearance. Something had to change!

My Turning Point

I moved to California and really got more in tune with my health and fitness. I changed my eating habits and started to work out more. The hustle and bustle of living in Cali just urged me to be more fit and live a more natural, healthy lifestyle. What really made me start to drink more water was seeing how dirty the water coming out of my faucet was. It had small white particles in it and you could really see it when you boiled the water. That's when I started researching different types of water and what you should drink.

Now I didn't just jump fully in and went from one bottle to eight bottles a day. I slowly got into drinking more and more water as time passed. I started counting the ounces of water that I drank a day to make sure I was getting my proper servings. Within a few months I was able to drink eight cups of water a day (the recommended servings). I'm proud to say now that I cut all the sugary drinks and am heavily in the gym, I am now up to 12-16 cups a day (almost a gallon).

Healthiest Water Types

From my research I saw that Spring water and Alkaline water were the healthiest types of water to drink. Though I saw the dangers of drinking bottled waters from contamination to pollutants and harmful chemicals in water, I wanted to be extra careful with what I was consuming. In due time I started seeing the benefits of leaving the carbonated drinks alone and living a more water filled life!

The Benefits of Drinking Water


I am a living witness that water has changed my life for the good! My personal benefits that I've seen by increasing my water intake are low to no facial breakouts, a clean system, more energy, little to no cramps, brighter looking skin and easily being able to shed off unwanted fat. Water can also

  • flush out toxins
  • relieve headaches and fatigue
  • maintain regularity
  • prevent sprains
  • makes you happier
  • save you money

Last Thoughts.....

If I didn't persuade you enough already what water can do for you, I challenge you to start drinking eight cups of water a day. Once you get to eight, see if you can double that amount and get to a gallon of water a day. You will see some if not all of the benefits that I listed above and weight loss will be a thing of the past as it'll be so much easier to keep your system crystal clean. Why Juice? 

After last week's conversation about eating healthier and adding juicing to your meals, I wanted to dedicate this post to the importance of juicing. Since I bought my Breville juicer a few weeks ago I havent stopped smashing fruits into nutrients! I'm in absolute love with my juicer and I wanted to show my tips and benefits as well as the effect juicing has had on me. Juicing has helped give me an extra boost on my lousy days and give me the veggies and fruits I need in a simple shake.   • Easier way to digest multiple fruits and veggies at once
  • Allows you to get fresh juice that's unprocessed without any added preservatives or sugars
  • Allows you to have an ample supply of micronutrients which help fight cancer and diseases

Now that you know a few benefits of juicing, I'd love to share some juicing tips to help you along with this new journey.  

Juicing Tips

  • Thoroughly clean your fruits and vegetables before juicing so that you can avoid the presence of bacteria and dirt in your juice
  • Make sure you buy a good juicer that will easily do the job for you, I purchased a Breville Juice Fountain Compact for $99.99 at Best Buy and I absolutely LOVE IT (Before I had a juicer I was using a blender and it just didn't do the job!) 
  • I wouldn't recommend juicing as a meal replacement for a long amount of time. I would not suggest using juicing for weight loss as I believe there are healthier ways to lose weight without solely depending on juice
  • Juicing extracts the fibers from fruits and veggies so make sure you have a way to get your fibers or use the extracts to cook with in your meals
  • Drink the juice as soon as you make it, no need for leftovers as this increases the chances of bacteria getting in your juice if it's left for a later date to consume
  • Mix the right ingredients so that the taste of the juice is great

Need to Know

    So now that you know the ins and outs of juicing, I would highly recommend going to your nearest store to pick up a juicer and join me on this healthy living journey. Juicing provides a great way for you to gain the many nutrients you may be missing out on in one simple 16oz drink.     We're back again to provide you guys with more healthy meals to get your week started off right! This week we want to focus on some of our favorite vegan and vegetarian dishes that take less than an hour to prepare. Below I'll show you the ingredients used for each recipe as well as some pictures of the dishes before I devoured them. I'l show you a vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes that are easy to prepare and great to eat!

    Let's try juicing for breakfast! Grab some of your favorite fruits and throw them in a juicer to get your day started off on the right foot.     Mango Black Bean Poblano Quesadilla

    I wanted to spice it up for lunch with a quesadilla and spinach to top. This vegan dish was so fulfilling yet light and tasteful. This dish includes:

    We've made it to dinner again! I wanted to use the rest of my tortilla shells so I decided to make eggplant tacos. I served this dish with fresh cut potatoes and a hard shell taco to give an extra crunch on the outside. This dish is absolutely delicious and a definite must try! This dish includes:

    My Hair Growth Journey


    Hair Stress!

    If you're like me then you struggle constantly with your hair. You've tried the YouTube tutorials, the wash and gos, the twist outs yet nothing seems to work! It's frustrating right? I know it's frustrating for me. As to why I've decided to try something new this year with my hair, grow dreads! 

    My Hair Journey

    So when I was a beautiful young child my mother started me off in this world perming my hair. It was great and easy to handle for me until I reached my Freshman year of college and my hair started to thin out. I didn't understand why and I was tired of figuring out styles or getting sew-ins so I decided to go natural. Going natural was great for me. I obtained a new curl pattern for my hair and my thickness came back. Though I was happy with my natural results the manipulation of the many hairstyles I'd do were constantly breaking my hair off. So I'd constantly have hair growth but a lot was breaking off. Seven years later of doing the natural wave I've finally decided to grow DREADLOCKS! 

    Yes, I said it! DREADLOCKS! I'm over the thousands of dollars we spend at the hair dressers and refuse to pay for any more weave! I WILL NOT LOSE ANYMORE STRANDS OF HAIR! I rebuke thee! I am ready to really get in tune with myself and my hair and allow it to not get anymore stress from combs, heat, manipulation or products. 

    Be Different!

    The reason for this journey is that I'm ready to change for 2017 and I hope that I can inspire you to do something different and new as well. Not just something trendy but something that increases your overall health and wellness. Do something for the better for you for once. That's really what I want for myself this year as I start to change so many things in my life, starting with my hair.
